CasAlice a ground-floor house

Casalice is centrally located on one of these alleys, a few dozen metres from the street leading to the castle and the main street, but far enough inland not to be affected by traffic noise. An old family home, it has seen many generations born, grow up and follow one another.
The small door with the traditional clapper opens onto a stone staircase, restored following renovation several years ago. On the ground floor, a laundry room is also equipped as a bathroom, to offer an immediate shower when returning from the sea, thus preserving the upper rooms from sand and salt.
As one climbs upwards, the rooms open up. The projecting balconies are protected by the traditional 'cassine', giving each room discreet light and initial protection from the sun. On the first floor is a bedroom with bathroom and an open living room with sofa and bunk bed.
The house is rather cool, both because of the thickness of the walls and because it faces north, thus not having walls in full sun. However, for the hottest days a ceiling fan provides a healthy coolness.
Going up to the second floor we find another room with a bathroom, the kitchen and a small living room that opens onto a small terrace, a typical 'open-air room', very popular in the summer months.
But the most fascinating 'room' is the large sun terrace, partly covered by a pergola of reeds, partly free, from which one can enjoy the view of the roofs of Lipari, a glimpse of the port, the natural amphitheatre of hills surrounding the city.
At sunset, the terrace becomes a fantastic place from which a thousand lights give the impression of a large nativity scene. On one side of the terrace, a concrete kitchen counter with sink and barbecue offers the possibility of spending an evening cooking the catch of the day.
