CasAlice in the heart of Lipari

CasAlìce is located in the heart of Lipari, the oldest city in Italy with its 6000 years of history.
Here, at the foot of the walls of the ancient Acropolis, the urban fabric is formed by dozens of small alleys that go around the castle, connecting the two ports of Marina Lunga and Marina Corta.
The Greeks called 'Astu' this area at the foot of the Acropolis, undefended by walls. The working classes lived here, as did the merchants, and from here one had access to the agora, the meeting and market square, and to the countryside.
The many alleyways created a special environment, protected from traffic to encourage socialisation and exchange.
On both sides of the alley, houses face each other close together and from their balconies one can pass tasty dishes, the heritage of the long tradition of popular cuisine.
The houses here are ground-floor. The rooms on the ground floor, which were once used for storing wine barrels and as a pantry, are now inhabited.
